SENIOR CITIZENS SET TO COMPETE IN THE GOLDEN GAMES

Senior citizens from across the North West province will participate in the 2023 Provincial Golden Games in Rustenburg on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, following a two-year break due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Senior citizens aged 60 and above will compete in the fun filled games including male and female football, rugby ball throw, duck walk, ball pass and kick, rugby ball throw, juskei, ring the stick, ball relay, goal shooting, dress up and athletics.

The golden games as they are popularly known, seek to enhance the quality of life and improve the health of elderly persons, embrace active ageing, create awareness on the abilities and capabilities of older persons in sport and recreational activities, promote social cohesion and community integration.

The Games have become increasingly popular with more than 600 participants set to compete in this year’s golden games. According to the organisers, the participants are recruited from community based facilities such as service clubs, old age homes and disadvantaged communities.

Winners of the provincial competitions will represent the North West province at the national games which will take place later this year.

Activity 1: Choir festival

Activity 2: Provincial Golden Games
Venue : Impala Rugby Stadium
Date : Wednesday, 18 October 2023
Time : 09h00 am – 17h00
