The newly appointed MEC for Social Development Lazarus Mokgosi has called upon the management of the department to make a difference in the lives of ordinary citizens of the North West province.
On Thursday, MEC Mokgosi who was accompanied by Premier’s intervention team met with the department’s management for the first time at Garona building in Mmabatho where he outlined his vision for the department and the kind of work culture he would like to see in the department.
“The public service is highly regulated. All public servants must always adhere to the law and dare not to take short cuts.” Mokgosi said, adding that the management of the department must focus on the implementation of the budget speech and annual performance plan as tabled at the legislature.
Mokgosi who has a vast experience in the public service and the political sphere, called on management to intervene swiftly in the plight of young people who indulge in substances and work tirelessly to address gender based violence, poverty, inequality, unemployment and other social problems that are still prevalent in most communities.
Mokgosi is scheduled to have a series of engagements with extended departmental management committee and social development staff in the coming weeks.
