MAHIKENG: The sponsorship by MTN SA Foundation to Ramosadi Bakery Cooperative will soon end the dominance of established bakery institutions around Mahikeng if the bold claim made by Ramosadi cooperative is realised.
The Ramosadi Bakery Cooperative received a sum of R150 000 from MTN SA Foundation in partnership with Social Development on 29 October 2021 in Ramosadi village near Mahikeng. “Our aim is to supply all the creches and schools around Mahikeng with bread”, says Ntesang Golelelwang, chairperson of Ramosadi Bakery Cooperative. “We intend to grow from these humble beginnings to a dominant force around Mahikeng and beyond. There will be job creation and we bank on our community and government entities as our backbone to reach our dreams.
MTN SA Foundation’s Angie Maloka who heads Education and Community Programmes was in full praise of the cooperative. “Partnering this project was no brainer”, says Maloka. “On my surprise visit to the centre I was immediately convinced by the dedication of the women here. On that cold wintry morning, these brave women were working hard to see their cooperative thriving. “As MTN Foundation we are here for a long haul” continues Moloka, adding that the piece of land where the centre is will be too small in three years. “We will continue to offer you training, while linking you to peer cooperatives to exchange learning.”
MEC Boitumelo Moiloa has praised the patience of Ramosadi Bakery Cooperative women, who always believed in their dream. “You have been resilient against all odds. Our department encourages people to be independent and goes beyond food parcels. We love the generational mix we find in your staff component because nurturing youth is something we cherish a lot”, Moiloa said.
Keamogetse Thutlwa, 22 from neighbouring Seweding village says she believes that the cooperative will change the lives of the community. “There will be job creation for young people and we must support our own.” Thutlwa vouches for the bakery as she says they offer “delicious cakes and excellent service”. I hope the community will encourage its growth and make sure that it will never be vandalised.
