Media Statements

North West MEC for Social Development, Boitumelo Moiloa has called for justice for a 25 year-old young woman of Ikageleng Township in Zeerust who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend on Tuesday, 02 November 2021.
Moiloa, who was visibly disturbed by the details of her killing, says her death is a major setback in the gains made on the fight against gender-based violence across the country.
“Gender based violence has become the second pandemic in our province and the country large. We dare not to back down. We will not be defeated until we win the war against the abuse of women.”
“What was difficult for the boyfriend to just walk away? A possible senseless argument has now cut short a bright future of a young woman who was a breadwinner at home”, Moiloa says, adding that GBV cases in Ramotshere Moiloa are becoming worrisome.” Moiloa said another young woman was murdered in Gopane village near Lehurutshe in September this year.
Moiloa said government departments, law enforcement agencies and communities must arrest the spate of growing cases of gender based violence in the province.
Social workers at Ramotshere Moiloa service point, Moiloa said, have been assigned to provide trauma counselling to the bereaved family and to compile a home circumstance report. She said social workers have also provided the family with social relief of distress and psychosocial support.
Moiloa has expressed her condolences to bereaved family and urge communities to work together in waging a winnable war against gender based violence.
