North West Social Development MEC Boitumelo Moiloa will on Friday launch Chommy social and behavioural change programme for children between the ages of 10 and 14 at Ipelegeng community care in Mamusa local municipality.
Chommy, a colloquial term for a ‘friend,’ aims to generate knowledge, develop skills and empower young people to make more informed choices to reduce HIV infections, substance abuse and to prevent teenage pregnancies.
Chommy programme which will be implemented under the tagline: “invest in my future. Protect me today” utilises indigenous games, poems, singing and dance to instil moral values into children.
About 50 participants, representatives of various NPOs which receive funding from the department to implement social behaviour programmes in the province including Mamusa local municipality mayor will attend the launch of Chommy programme that is scheduled as follows:-
