It is all systems go for the North West MEC for Social Development Basetsana Sussana Dantjie to lead efforts to intensify the fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) through the Orange Day Campaign at Khuma location in the City of Matlosana local municipality.
Orange day campaign forms part of the global United Nations UNiTE initiative, which designates the 25th of every month to show solidarity towards war against GBVF.
Hailed as more than a monthly campaign, Orange Day calls for communities to stand united and send a clear and uncompromising message: “Violence against women and girls ends here, and it ends now.”
The programme will commence with a visit to the KOSH Crisis Centre, followed by a community engagement session, bringing together government departments, municipalities, SAPS, the National Prosecuting Authority, the Department of Health, civil society organizations, survivors of GBVF, and community members.
Survivors will form part of the programme to remind communities that every statistic has a name, a face, and a family. The campaign will also encourage victims and survivors to speak out, report abuse, and access available support services.
The Department remains committed to strengthening coordinated support systems, promoting safer communities, and ensuring that vulnerable groups receive protection, dignity, and justice without delay or discrimination.
