RESPONSE TO ALLEGATIONS AROUND THE APPOINTMENT OF THE HOD OF
SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
The department of Social Development has noted with concern the misguided
allegations of impropriety with regards to the appointment of its Head of Department
(HOD) Mr Relebohile Mofokane. Departmental MEC Boitumelo Moiloa, wishes to set
the record straight that all recruitment processes were followed to the latter while
appointing the HOD for Social Development. Mr Mofokane possess suitable
qualification (vetted by South African Qualifications Authority), skills and experience
to occupy this position. His profile went through rigorous scrutiny and was
subsequently appointed by the Premier of North West Province, following concurrence
and support by the Minister of Public Service and Administration. Further enquiries
can be directed towards the above distinct offices.
The department condemns in strongest possible terms, the demonstrations that seek
to suggest that only people from North West province, particularly Mahikeng should
occupy senior managerial positions in the provincial government. South Africa is not a
federal state and therefore the above view is not consistence with the gains of our
hard earned democracy.

Furthermore, we have noted with concern that a group of people have invaded and
disrupted operations and subsequently delivery of services at the Departmental Head
Office (Provident House Building) on 3 May 2021 and again on 4 May 2021. MEC
Moiloa condemns in strongest possible terms this violent intrusion of her offices by
this group of people and will approach law enforcement agencies to act appropriately.
