North West Department of Social Development on Friday issued criteria for accessing social relief of distress during the Covid-19 national lockdown. According to the criteria an applicant must be a South African citizen/permanent resident or refugee, households with no income, experiencing undue hardship and hunger, they must be beneficiaries who did not receive their social grants due to failed bank verification or whose temporary disability grants lapsed at the end of March 2020 and they must be beneficiaries awaiting payment of an approved social grant.
Members of the public are urged to make applications with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) by dialling call centre Toll Free Number 0800 60 10 11 and a landline number 018 397 3360 from Monday to Friday at 07h30 – 16h30 and Saturdays at 07h30 – 13h00. Community members are requested to refrain from visiting SASSA offices and use the contact details provided.
